NOTE: The signsof Jesus caused belief in observers; and among believers, turned them into disciples. In the Great Commission, it was disciplesthat Jesus commanded his “twelve” to make.

In the Gospel of John, 7 “signs” performed by Jesus are recorded. The turning of water into wine in Cana of Galilee had a profound effect on Jesus' twelve! This second sign also in Cana of Galilee in the passage above, had a profound effect upon a nobleman and his household. It is a preview of Acts 16:31, when the earthquake that freed all the prisoners in the Philippian jail - caused the jailer when he found none took advantage of this to escape, fell at the feet of Paul and Silas, and asked - “Sirs - What must I do to be saved?”And Paul responded, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved, and your house!”These two passages are then indeed parallel. Household salvation emerged in both cases as the result of miraculous signs.

Some students of the Gospel of John have shown how the 7 signs of Jesus that John was ledto record, each have a separate spiritual truth to proclaim.

For the nobleman in sign number two, it was learning that the fever left his little son and he began to amend - on the very hourthat Jesus said to him, “Go, your :son lives!” God knows that many human beings are profoundly touched when they learn of such exact timing behind a miracle classed as a “sign” that we see here.

For the entire church age of 2000 years then, it is quite appropriate to believe the last few verses of the Gospel of Mark 16:17-18 as spoken by Jesus - “And these signs shall followthem that have believed: in my name they shall...” and then our Lord mentions 5 signs that would foster belief and discipleship in the lives of hearers. This passage ends up with a fulfillment of the prophetic words of Jesus - “And THEY went forth, andpreached everywhere, the Lordworking with them, and confirming the wordby the signsthat followed” (Mark 16:20).

No other passage in Scripture has been so attacked by Satan as the last 12 verses of Mark. Ivan Panin through the results of his discovery of God's Bible Numerics in 1890 - declares that if any portion of Scripture could be omitted, Mark 16:9-20 would be the very lastto go. Morenumerical phenomena appear in this passagethan in any other portion of Scripture. - J.A.W.
